Anthony Chau
Violin
Anthony Chau joined the New Mexico School of Music faculty in May of 2011. He earned his Master’s of Music degree in violin performance from the University of New Mexico and holds two Bachelor’s degrees in violin performance and music business from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas. His most influential teachers include Dr. Cármelo de los Santos, David Felberg, and Valerie Sullivan. Throughout his learning, he has received lessons and master classes from Gil Shaham, Peter Shepperd Skaerved, Dr. Stephen Clapp, Chee-Yun Kim, Dr. Greg Lee, Philip Lewis, Elisabeth Small and Dr. Rossitza Goza. In 2006, he won first prize in the Miller Concerto Competition held annually in Kansas, and several of his students have won concerto competitions in their middle and high school orchestras.
As an active performer, Anthony has played with several performing groups including New Mexico, Roswell, San Juan, Santa fe and Wichita Symphony Orchestras, Albuquerque Little Theatre, First Baptist Church Praise & Worship Band, and recorded for local vocalists and film producers. Anthony is QTango Dance Orchestra’s second violinist and has toured throughout the southwest, west coast and has been invited to perform in other areas of the country and internationally. He is a member of the Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity and Alpha Chi Honor Society. Outside of performing and teaching, Anthony passionately builds his Amway business to create better lives for other people.
